AS A MAN THINKETH SUMMARY BY JAMES ALLEN
Introduction
Hello friends, Today, we will talk about a book, called As A Man Thinketh, written by James Allen.James Allen was a British philosophical writer, known for his inspirational books and poetry. This book was published in 1903.Allen has explained in this book the power of thought, and also its application. Here, it is also described that, how people face good or bad conditions in their life.A person can make his life and change his situations. This is a book that will help you to help yourself. This book explains the power and right application of thought. This book is divided in 7 different chapters, that we will understand in detail. So let's begin.
Thought and character.
As a man thinketh in his heart, the same happens. He embraces every situation and circumstance of his life. His character is the sum of his thoughts. As the plant could not grow without the seed, similarly every act of a man springs from the hidden seeds of thought.Act is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruits.Thought in our mind has made us.We become what we think. If a man's mind has evil thoughts, pain comes behind him as the wheel behind the ox.If one brings good and pure thought in the mind, then joy follows him as his own shadow.Person grows by law, not by artifice, and its effect is the same in the world of thoughts, as in the world of visible and tangible things.A noble and godlike character is not a thing of chance or favor, but is the result of continued effort for right thinking.Man is made or destroyed by himself.in the armory of thoughts, he forges such weapons by which he destroys himself. He also uses the tools with which he builds for himself a heavenly mansion of joy and peace.By the right choice and use of thought, man ascends to the perfection, and by the abuse of bed thoughts, he descends below the level of the beast.Between these two extremes are all the characters of humans, and man is their maker and master. As a master of power, wisdom, and love, and thoughts, man holds the key to every situation, and has something within himself with which he can become what he wants.
Only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained, and a person can find every truth connected with himself, if he digs deep into the his soul.He makes his character, moulds his life, and builds his destiny.Effect of thought on circumstances.A person's mind is like a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or may be allowed to run wild.If no useful seeds are put into it, then many useless seeds will fall therein, and will start to grow their kinds. As a gardener cultivates his plot, keeps it away from bad seeds, and grows the flowers and fruits which he requires, similarly a person, by weeding out all the bed, useless, and impure thoughts, from his mind, can get the flowers and fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts.By adopting this process, a man sooner or later, discovers that he is the gardener of his soul, the director of his life.He also learns how the thoughts of mind, shape his character, circumstances, and destiny.Thought and character are the same, and as the character can only be made or discover through environment and circumstance, the outer conditions of a person's life are related to his inner circumstances. This doesn̢۪t mean that a man's circumstances at one time indicate his entire character, but those circumstances are connected with some of his thoughts for that time.Man is buffeted by circumstances, as long as he believes himself to be a creature of outside conditions, but when he realizes that he is a creative power, and that he maycommand the hidden soil and seeds of circumstances, he then becomes real master of himself.Anyone who has practiced self-control for a long for time, he knows that the circumstances arise from thoughts, and have always noticed that the change in their circumstances is exactly equal to their altered mental condition.Every thought-seed sown into the mind, grows its roots, makes its own opportunities and circumstances.Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bad fruit. And humans, from this harvest, learn both suffering and bliss.Anyone goes to the jail not by the tyranny of fate or circumstance, but by the pathway of groveling thoughts and base desires.
allen james as a man thinketh
A pure-minded person does not suddenly commit crime by stress of any external force, but criminal's thoughts secretly foster in the heart, and reveal their power as the opportunity comes.Circumstanced don't make the man; they reveal him to himself.People do not attract that what they want, but that what they are.Their courage, ambitions are thwarted at every step, but their inner thoughts and desires grow on their own, be it foul or cleanMen are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore keep growing. The man who does not shrink from self-crucifixion can never fail to accomplish what his heart is set on.Even the personwhose sole object is to acquire wealth must be prepared to make several sacrifices. There is a man who is unfortunately very poor.He is very anxious for improvements in his surroundings and home comforts, yet all the time he shirks his work, and thinks he can deceive his employer, because his salary is low.Such a man does not understand a simple thing which is principle of true prosperity, and nor is ready to rise out of his wretchedness, but is actually driving himself to a deeper wretchedness by such wrong thoughts, There is a rich man who is the victim of a painful and persistent disease as the result of his green.
He is ready to give lot of money to get rid of it, but he will not sacrifice his gluttonous desires.Such a man can't have good health, because he hasn't learned the first principle of a healthy life. Here is an employerwho wants to avoid paying wages by deception, so that he can make larger profits, and reduces the wages of his workers.Such a man can not have success, and when he goes bankrupt by reputation and money, he blames circumstances, not knowing that he is the sole author of his condition.Circumstances are so complicated, thought is so deeply rooted, and the conditions of happiness vary with individuals, therefore a man's entire soul condition cannot be judged from the external aspect of his life alone.A man may be honest and yet suffer privations, and a man may be dishonest and yet acquire wealth, but often it's believed that one fails because of his honesty, and others succeed because of their dishonesty, which means that the dishonest man is totally corrupt, and honest man is virtuous. In the light of a deeper knowledge and wider experience, such judgment is found to be erroneous. The dishonest man may have some virtues which the others do not possess, and the honest man may have vices which others don't have.
The honest man reaps the good results of his honest thoughts and acts, Similarly dishonest man garners happiness and suffering.Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results, and bad thoughts and actions can never have good results.Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought. The right use of suffering is to eliminate all that is useless and impure.A man cannot be conditioned until he is happy, healthy, and successful, and happiness, health, and success are the result of a harmony of the inner and outer surroundings of the man.A Man thinks that thought can be kept secret, but it cannot. It continuously turns into a habit, and habit creates circumstance.Like the habit of drunkenness causes destruction and disease.Impure thoughts of any kind become confusing habits, which creates distracting circumstances.Thoughts of fear and doubt become weak and fearful habits, which solidify into circumstances of failure, Lazy thoughts lead to habits of unhygiene and dishonesty, which create circumstances of foulness and beggary.Hateful and condemnatory thoughts create habits of accusation and violence, which create circumstances of injury and persecution.Selfish thoughts crystallize into habits of self-seeking, which solidify into more troublesome circumstances. On the other hand, beautiful thoughts create habits of kindliness, which solidify into bright circumstances.
Pure thoughts crystallize into habits of calmness and self-control, which make circumstances of peace.Thoughts of courage lead to manly habits, which solidify into circumstances of success and freedom.A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and this way he can shape his circumstances.Effect of thought on health and the body. The body is the servant of the mind.It obeys the operations of the mind, whether they be chosen deliberately or automatically. At the bidding of unlawful thoughts the body sinks rapidly into disease and decay. At the command of glad and beautiful thoughts it becomes clothed with youthfulness and beauty.Thoughts of fear kill a man as speedily as a bullet.Anxiety lays the body open to the entrance of disease, and impure thoughts shatter the nervous system.Men will continue to have impure and poisoned blood so long as they propagate unclean thoughts.Out of a clean heart comes a clean life and a clean body.Out of a defiled mind proceeds a defiled life and corrupt body.Change of diet will not help a man who will not change his thoughts. When a man makes his thoughts pure, he no longer desires impure food.If you want perfect body, then guard your mind. There is no physician like cheerful thoughts for dissipating the ills of the body there is no comforter to compare with goodwill for dispersing the shadows of grief and sorrow. To live always in bad thoughts means to make self-made prison.Thought and purpose.Until thought is linked with purpose nothing will be accomplished. Those who have no purpose in their life fall an easy prey to worries, fears, and troubles, which lead to failure, unhappiness, loss, and weakness.A man should conceive of a purpose in his heart, which he can accomplish.
as a man thinketh book summary
He should make this purpose the central point of his thoughts. He should devote himself to its attainment, not allowing his thoughts to wander into greed and imaginations.Even if he fails again and again to accomplish his purpose, the strength of character will be the measure of his success, and this will form a new starting point for future power and triumph. As the physically weak man can make himself strong by training, so the man of weak thoughts can make them strong by right thinking.By removing weakness and beginning to think with purpose, one can be part of those strong ones who recognize failure as the pathways to success. To achieve his purpose, a man should mentally mark out a pathway to his success, without looking to the right or left.Doubts and fears should be rigorously excluded, they ruin your efforts.Thoughts of doubt and fear have never accomplished anything, and never can. They always lead to failure.Doubt and fear are the biggest enemies of knowledge. He who has conquered doubt and fear has conquered failure. The thought-factor in achievement. All that a man achieves or all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts.A man's weakness and strength, purity and impurity, are his own, and not of someone else, and they can be changed by himself, and not by others. His happiness and sufferings are evolved from within. As he thinks, so he is.And as he continues to think, so he remains.A strong man can never help a weaker unless the weaker is willing to be helped, and the weak man must become strong by his own efforts, and should develop the strength which he admires in others. He who has conquered weakness, and has put away all selfish thoughts can only rise, conquer, and achieve. He can only remain weak when he refuses to lift up his thoughts. In order to succeed, he has to sacrifice his greed. Not having control on his thoughts, he is not in a position to control huge responsibilities. He will be limited by the thoughts he chooses. The world does not favor the greedy, rather it helps the honest.Victories attained by right thought can only be maintained by watchfulness. Many people fall back into failure after getting success. He who would accomplish little must sacrifice little he who would achieve much must sacrifice much.Visions and ideals.
