 The key to developing a deep work habit is-to move beyond good intentions,-and to add routines to your work life. This is designed to minimize the amount-of your limited willpower,-necessary to maintain unbroken concentration. Few points, crucial to get the most out of deep work sessions:-Decide where you’ll work and for how long. Create a zone where you can focus. Decide how you’ll work once you start work. What are your processes? How will you support your work? Before you begin, do you-need to be fueled adequately? Or want to try some light exercise? Author mentions importance of downtime and freedom. It allows you the time,-that you require to get your deep work done. Downtime can aid your insights. Downtime recharges the energy needed to work deeply. On any given day,-you have a limited capacity for deep work. Try to do it during the day-time,-and use evenings for downtime. Embrace boredom. Enjoy the boredom. In our fast-paced lives,-our brains have been re-wired,-and it expects and requests distraction. In ‘potential boredom’,



We check our smart-phones at any moment,-whether it be waiting in a queue or-when your friend pops into the washroom. This means that our brain looks for distraction. There is no space left for deep work. Rather than taking a break from distractions,-we re-arrange our schedules,-instead, for these distractions,-we should take breaks from focus. To do this, you can practice meditation. The goal of productive meditation is-that you are occupied physically,-but not mentally. Focus on walking, jogging, driving, showering-and your well-defined professional problem. Key to successful productive meditation is,-repeatedly returning your attention to the problem. And do this whenever your mind wanders. In order to reap the benefits,-you have to continually practice this. When you begin meditation,-your mind acts as a rebellion,-and thinks unrelated but interesting thoughts. When your attention begin to slip away from the problem,-remind yourself, that you can think about it later,-and redirect your attention back. 




Quit social media. 




Internet is an integrated component of our lives. and we should not stop-using the internet altogether. However, you should take challenge of quitting social media,-to begin with, for just 30 days. Can the days without social media,-be worse than the days-when you can check your facebook? Did anyone notice or care-that you are not using social media? You should just stop using social media,-without deleting your account-or announcing it officially. To perform deep work,-you have to actively-reject the distracted world of connectedness. You must stop using the internet as ‘entertainment’. Do more meaningful things with your mind,-this will leave you feeling more fulfilled-than semi-consciously browsing the net. 



If you want to shift-your time and attention from entertainment sites,-give your brain a quality alternative. Not only will this save you from distraction,-but, perhaps for the first time,-you might experience what it means to live,-and not just exist. Drain the shallows. Treat shallow work with suspicion,-because its damage-is often vastly underestimated,-and its benefit, vastly overestimated. This type of work is inevitable. But you must keep it confined to a point,-where it doesn’t impede your ability to take full advantage of the deeper efforts. You begin by scheduling your entire day. Be open to adapt or modify this schedule. This structure means-that you have less opportunities-to delve into ‘shallow work’. If your schedule has no structure,-and if it is over-flexible,-you will find yourself on social media,-doing unproductive tasks-and mindlessly browsing the net. With structure, you can ensure that you regularly think a new idea,-or work deeply on something challenging. 



This is the type of commitment leads to innovation. An advantage of a structured approach is-that you can clearly see that,-how much time you are spending on deep work,-and how much on shallow work. Assess the ration and adjust your time,-so that majority of time of the day-is spent on deep work. 


Few tips that avoid shallow work-and encourage deep work:-


Make people who send you email do more work. Make sender filters,-so that important emails-can be separated from time-wasting ones. Do more work when you send or reply to emails. Do not send short responses,-that may require more work later. Be efficient with email. Don’t procrastinate tasks that can be done immediately. Don't respond. Not everything needs a response. You have to be comfortable with this,-but soon you will see the benefits. Stop being busy. 



Deep work is not for everyone. It requires, hard work and drastic changes to your habits. For many people, there’s a comfort in the artificial busyness-of e-mail, messaging, and social media. While the deep life demands that-you leave much of that behind. What you can already do,-difficult to produce the best with more efforts. as this forces you to confront-that maybe your best is not yet that good. The road to a life rich and productive life-passes through deep work,-allowing your mind to work to its capacity,-and getting over your comforts and fears.
